Outreach

YWCA Girls

As the outreach coordinator of the HCI Student Group, I am currently leading Engineering Design programs for youth in Ames.

In March 2023, we are launching the first machine learning bootcamp for middle schoolers where we engage in creating games using ML models while interrogating ourselves about the nature of algorithms in our everyday lives.

Al Éxito

Al Éxito is a local NGO which supports LatinX communities in the state of Iowa where I have provided game design and engineering design camps for middle-school students.

Bricks and Bits

Bricks and Bits is an engineering design project developed in Uruguay between 2017 and 2019. The project involved Engineering college students re-designing an unused toy to give it a second life for a child in their communities. Over 120 college students and 30 children participated in this experience. Additionally, over 1400 students joined us for our interactive science fairs across provincial Uruguay.

Summer Jams

The Summer Jam for moral development and interpersonal relations is a three-day event where middle-school students engage in designing computer games using branch narratives and loops to explore complex decision-making processes in their everyday lives.

XR Games

This is an after-school program in a rural community in the state of Iowa where we explore the affordances of extended reality (XR) technologies to engage in storytelling, research and civic participation. During this program, youth brainstorm, develop, implement and research XR environments to address place-based issues.
